Interview With MISCREANT / DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE

Interview with miscreant,all vocals,and instruments for depraved indifference done by patrick.

1.hails miscreant!! hows the week starting out for you? Not to bad, with the economy in such a poor state has certainly been a testment to the futility of modern day society. With the lively hood of millions hanging by a thread, one could say for all our progress we have really not progressed at all.

please tell the readers a little about yourself. Well, I am a father of 2 young children, 30years old and a metal head. I stole a cassete of Carcass - Symphony of sickness when I was around the age of 13-14 and was all down hill from there.

2.depraved indifference is a fairly new band correct? Yes, would say the idea became a reality at the start of December 2007. what gave you the idea to create this project/band? for readers who have not heard the band how would you describe the music? THe Idea for D.I. came after years of failed band attempts, would get a musician or 2 and start some great ideas. Then after a short time, others would loose interest, were not commited to seeing it through etc etc . It seemed apperent that if I wanted this idea to become a reality, I would have to do it all. As far as the music itself, I am a terrible judge of my own music. I would call it Blackened Thrash Metal, others have said it is more progressive. I have on my latest release included some ambient/acoustic tracks, I try to incorperate more then just one style as I never want to find myself limited. So one can hear a number of different influences, with solos on most of the tracks, as well some light synth work.

3.you are the sole member of depraved indifference.when you first the got the idea for the band did you plan to keep it a one-man band? In december when I decided on the bands name, I was set on the idea of me doing all instruments and then finding someone to do vocals. The music was coming along quicker then I had originally planned and decided to keep things moving forward. After a few test run on vocals and some positive feed back I took on vocals aswell. I generally keep to myself and creating music has become a almost ritualistic practice for me, so for now it will remain that way.

4.what do you think are the advantages and disadvantages to being a one-man band? if you had the opportunity to work with any other musician {past or present} who are some musicians you would love to work with? The only real disadvantages are not being able to perform live and the writing is a far more tedious process when you have to rely on recordings to put everything together. I have respect for many talented musicians, but for me I have come to enjoy and prefer things as they are. Despite the disadvantages it is a far more satisfying result, when you know you did it all yourself. Along with the fact, I have the pleasure of not dealing with the drama and bullshit that often comes with a multi member band. It has become common place for many bands to have several line up changes in a very short time and then of course the disputes as to the direction. I am sure everyone can think of atleast a dozen bands that have either canceled tours or seen major delays in the release of new music due to internal disputes or sudden exiting of members.

5.i had mentioned earlier this is a one-man band. so i was curious what instrument was the hardest to learn for you? what was the easiest?
Hardest has to be Keyboard, this is not a instrument that I ever had a real desire to play. So practice is very manotinous and in turn is not my strong suit. Drums on the other hand is a great release of energy and can practice for hours on end. It was the last instrument I picked up having had the least amount of experience .. recording. Though came very naturally and come to ask myself why I did not pick it up sooner. My goals for this next release will incorperate a greater deal of skill and variety in drums.

6.how often do you get to practice/write material? how often does it usually take to write/complete a song? does the music usually come first and then the lyrics or do you usually have lyrics already written? what are some subjects/topics you write about? Like I said earlier, I have been very fanatical about time spent practising drums, usually 3 or more hours a day. Between raising my kids and 40-50hour work weeks I try to give myself 3-4hours of practice time through out the day. I generally come up with ideas for new songs while practicing, usually one riff here, a drum line there after a week of this I have the foundation for a song. Once I feel I have a strong structure will set asside a couple days to starting puttting everything together. I try not to force songs out as the result is usually shit and those songs often get tossed. Lyrics always come last as I usually write them as I am listening to the music. The themes very from song to song, there is a definite disgust for religion and human stupidity. Generally the sound of the music decides the theme for lyrics and vocals.

7.i know a few years back the u.s black metal scene was not taken very seriously in other countries.but seems to be gaining some respect so i curious your opinon on the u.s.b.m? who are some of your favorite bands you feel help spread the darkness of the u.s.b.m? I pay little attention to countries when it comes to music, I think for far to long people associated a certain type of metal as being native to certain countries. I think this provented a lot of talented and creative bands from getting the attention they deserved. Being Norweigen doesn't mean you know how to make black metal better then someone from south america or the US. Demoncy is a great band, that I have listened to for many years, Crimson Moon, Grand Belial Keys. Whether they helped spread usbm, I couldn't say I judge bands on there music not there origin or any amount of hype surrounding them.

8. in your opinion what is the best and worst thing about the underground today? and what does the term "metal underground" mean to you? Well the definition of underground for metal has certainly changed, as it is far from underground. A simple google search can lead you to any band you would want to learn more about and ofcourse with myspace everything is all out in the open. For those around long enough to remember the only advertising undergrounds bands had were in photo copy zines printed in less then a 100 copies, black and white flyers usually sent out from small distros. I think it was a stronger sense of comradory back then, but also made finding new good metal harder to get your hands on and saw many bands recieve little notice that other wise should have. Though some things never change, this whole true/false childish bashing of other bands has held strong. Which is just as pathetic now as it was then, usually brought on by some personal dispute that has little to due with the actual music. The term Metal Underground for me means, music not made for the masses. Music that is extreme and not created for the purpose of potential success, but rather for the sake of individual creation.

9.are you currently involved with any other projects or bands to tell the readers about? No, Depraved Indifferance is my sole project and one I intend to continue for many years to come.

10.well miscreant we have reached the end of the interview.thank you for taking the time to fill this out.good luck to you and depraved indifference future. do you have any final words for the readers?
Thanks Patrick for the Interview and thanks to all the folks that have supported Depraved Indifferance! Keep it Fucking Metal!

bigail Williams "In the Shadow of a thousand sun"

Reviewed by Lori

Abigail Williams hails from the US and judging by all thousands of their friends on myspace they are a very popular band. I see why they are popular though, the same reason Dimmu Borgir, Old man's child, COF is popular with a lot of people in the black metal scene, the production is very good., jaw dropping good. It is better than the previous bands I mentioned.

There is actually nothing wrong with the music on this CD, very symphonic, killer piano, talented fast drumming, vocal style are the black metal screams and at times some gutturals. On a couple trax there are some male clean vocals that are nice.

What stands out to me the most is the piano. The piano brings a soft mystical side to the music along with power and strength . On song 10 you hear a beautiful violin with the piano creating a sombre atmosphere to end the CD.

Black metal fans that stick with the thick raw cold black metal bands like Dark Throne, Burzum, Manes, old Dimmu borgir, etc and shun bands that plays black metal with a more cleaner sound, I really think you should check this band out because you will be missing out on some great music if you dont.

This 6 member band created songs that will not disappoint in any way. My only problem is the CD was not long enough.

alghazanth-wreath of the vetat cd {woodcut rec.}
another amazing and majestic black metal entity from the finnish underground.the band takes little time in unleashing their blaspemous and intense sound from the first crushing blast beat. then goat tormenter are drawn into the mix and what a vocalist!! think legion {marduk} with a slight deeper shriek/scream.the band also amazed me with how they incorporated keyboards into the dark/war metal sound. but it actually "adds" a nice dark atmosphere to the music without ruining the intensity. fans of mid era marduk {opus nocturne,heaven shall burn} and emperor {nightshade eclipse era} but also add a class of musicanship all their own. get this!!!

Anticosm "Alcoholic Darkness"

Reviewed by Lori

When I got this demo the case was in pieces and the booklet with the corpse paint band photos I did not have much faith in this band. I do judge a book by its cover... I popped the CD in and was extremely surprised, hey this is pretty good!

Anticosm is a 5 piece black thrash metal band from New Jersey that started in 05. The two main members enjoy almost all metal styles and have no problem involving them in their music. "Alcoholic Darkness" is a black thrash band with some death style vocals at times.

I am really liking the first song "Skinless". Near the end with the guitars wailing, drums pounding you hear raspy screams mixed with the deep vocals and then carries on with out the music and flows onto the second trax smoothly with heavy guitars more guttural. Each song has something different going on, this is not boring. Acoustic guitar and keyboard is used on the song Black Hearts and just shows how versatile this band can be.

When they put out a CD I hope to see you all buy it and support this band. I sure will.

Dignity "project destiny"

Reviewed by Lori

Wow, the very beginning of this CD is very orgasmic, powerful, makes you want to conquer the world with the power metal style choir vocals. It makes you think this CD is going to be killer, but then once that is done its like the band was pussy whipped into lame ass crap. All that on the first song....

The style of music is "melodic hard rock". If I want that crap I would watch headbanger's ball.

"If you are a fan of Europe and TNT" than you might like this crap. Sweden has raised some amazing, talented bands, but even the great will fall....and they surely did with this band.

The music is rocky, sometimes heavyish and the vocals....anyone know the band Flowing Tears? Well many times he sounds like her.

I do not recommend this band, but you should take a listen and decide for yourself

Katra "Beast Within"

Reviewed by Lori

Katra is yet another Gothic metal band with female vocals in a almost over flowing scene of Gothic metal bands with female vocals. This genera can be nice, but all the bands kinda blend together after awhile;all sound the same.

If bands like Epica, Theater of tragedy, nightwish and all other bands like this is your thing than you will love this band.

Vocalist Katra Solopuro aligned with several musicians back in 2006. Katra stands for longing, love, passion set to music.

Here is how the label describes the band "....Gothic metal with folk influences that ranges from catchy hits to sensual ballads accentuated by a very powerful production."

The music is nice and calming, no aggression here. Vocals are strong and at times very gentle, she can be versatile it seems.

When this CD is on sale I recommend buying it.

my shameful-descend cd {firebox records}
dark,dreary and just plain depressing doom!!is what my shameful
deliever to you the unexpecting listener on this release.starting off
with an early 90's death/doom vibe {anathema,my dying bride} within the waves of depressing atmosphere the band also has some eerie,black metal guitar chords.the vocals go from sorrowful death growls to a more traditional clean voice.no keyboards,no female vocals,nothing but cold desolate doom is what my shameful release on this desolate,dark masterpiece.

netherbird--the ghost collector cd {pulverised records}
ahh yes black/death no one does it quite like {or better than} the swedish underground.this is defintly one of the heavier,darker bands to come from sweden {that i have heard} in quite sometime.a nice blend of {older} morbid angel,meets at the gates!! the band keeps the mood with the addition of some acoustic guitars,female.male choir type vocals. a very entertaining band to say the least. i for one see this band being a big name within the scene.if you are a fan of straight forward black/death metal with some melodic overtones check this band out today!

Serenity "Fallen Sanctuary"

Review done by Lori

Serenity was formed in 2001. They play symphonic, melodic metal with a touch of progressive. I am listening to the CD now and I think this band will please those who are into power, progressive, heavy metal and melodic metal bands like Dark Tranquility. This band is not bad at all. The guitarists sound like they know what they are doing and the vocals are really good, dude can sing well. The chorus makes you want to sing along. Like all or most power or melodic bands (awesome!!! voice over,got to love that...or not) there are ballads and this album has its share of ballads, very lovely.

I recommend this CD

arckanum-antikosmos cd {moribund rec.}
arckanum are a swedish black metal that have been spreading their filthy black metal plague for over 10 years now.razor sharp guitar chords with some of the most chaotic drumming to ever be recorded. harsh hateful scratchy vocals. if you are a old-school black metaller that remembers arckanun than you might now what to expect.the band is still as violent,harsh as they were 10 years ago. if your new to this band/scene and you like your black metal intense,hateful and raw then arckanum are a band worth checking out if you dare..

bahimiron-southern nihilism cd {moribund rec.}
this is my first time hearing these texas heathens.this is the bands 2nd full length {but 1st for the mighty moribund rec.} do you miss the cold desolate days of early black metal when it was raw,filthy and just plain nasty sounding? well bahimiron did and i believe are trying their best to resurrect the old-school sound with some modern touches. combining the early works of dark throne,beherit, and adding some intensity from the austrailian war metal scene. this and the bands own hate-filled ideas. and the vocalist who sounds like he needs a exorcism performed with his demonic vocals spewing out the hate.only add to the cold,intense hatred that is bahimiron.

battlelore return with a new epic journey of majestic and amazing melodic "fantasy metal". the last alliance is the bands 5th release and while not really as dark sounding or heavy as the last release "evernight".the music is more melodic with some agressive parts added.but is a flawless masterpiece of emotional and atmospheric/melodic death. once again kaisa johki and tomi mykkanen prove why they are the best male&female vocal duo of any genre.kaisa gives a performance of beautiful angelic vocals while tomi growls/screams with some real power behind the already flawless music.both singers are totally different styles but seem to blend perfectly together.if you are familar with battlelores art then you know what to expect.if you still have not heard this finnish act.buy the last alliance and be prepared to be amazed..

dimentianon-hossanas novus ordo sechurum cd {non compos mentis rec.}
dimentianon return with their long-awaited follow-up to seven suicides cd a few years back.and before you ask if it was worth the wait remeber this is dimentianon so hell yes! it was.for those of you poor souls not familar with dimentianon it is some of the members from the older new york band the forgotten. enough of a history lesson.the band mixes dark brutal blackend death metal. you can hear alot of the black metal in some of the songs with the thin guitar sound. and insane drumming.the one song that surprised me was the 23 min. epic "to return that which is above".you get the classic dimentianon insanity sound but also they slow it down in parts to almost doomish territory.and even some intertwined within the mix is some ambient/experiemental music.i am interested to hear/see if the band uses more of this sound in the future.if your a fan of older dimentianon than don't miss out on this gem!! if you have never heard the band and you are a fan of extreme dark black/death.then i say don't hesitate and buy this!! you won't be disappointed.

up first on this metal filled split is new yorks dimentianon with their brand of insane blackend/death insanity.musically they range from mid- paced to all-out blasting and chainsaw sounding guitars.all fans of aggressive bruatal metal take note.the next and last band on here is rigor sardonicus this band is total opposite of dimentianon.as they play some of the most slowest,dreariest doom known to man.i personally have never been a fan of this band.i mean it is ok for what it is.but just never really grabbed my attention.i will say these are some of the better sounding songs that i have heard compared to their previous works.but still can't recomend this to anyone but the most extreme doom/funeral fan.

new york's black/death/metal gods return.with a 4 track live cdr.for a live recording it is almost perfect you get to hear the crowd and front mike does a good job talking/encouraging the crowd as well as singing.and the rest of the band does a flawless job of keeping the intense dimentianon sound going.if you have never heard this band before i would say check out their studio albums first and get this but if your a fan by all means get this now while you can.
{special note,mike told me he will give/pass these out with paragon orders or to anyone who wants one so go to the interview for contact info!}

darkestrah-the great silk road cd {paragon rec.}
the guys at paragon never cease to amaze me whether it be mind-numbing slow doom,harsh black metal or crushing grind these guys know metal inside and out. germany's own darkestrah play a nice blend of atmospheric black metal and cold/pagan metal mix. the vocals are shrieks and some deeper growls blended in with the musicianship that is above average.mid paced semi-raw guitars and even some acoustic parts added in to keep the dark feelings alive.and mid paced drumming.i was a little worried when i saw the band had a syth player but the band uses them to their advantage mixing them right in with the other instruments to create a dark,haunting atmosphere.for fans of dark pagan blackness.

demonic halocaust-shadow of possesion demo
reviewed by kate
The opening song is "I AM DEMONIC" and no wonder they put this track first, it gives you the whole idea of what can you expect next while you are listening this demo! This song is pretty intense; it creates a Hellish atmosphere, and represents pretty dark theme. The first 5 seconds from this song, you get the feeling that the sound will blow you away! The drums are constant here; they don't stop for a second! Everything is pretty mighty "packed" up here, I especially like the different vocals and the impression you will get from this sound - at first it seems that not even one instrument is following the other, not even the vocals follow the drums or the other way around! But totally this does the trick, so I'll lead you to the song number 2: "SHADOWS OF POSSESSION". This song really makes you think like you are possessed by something and you live in its shadow!!! They managed to represent their ideology and by that their beliefs, ideas, thoughts and music talent beautifully here. You would think that they will slow down their rhythm and tempo, but they are just preparing you for the faster song No. 3 "UNEARTHING THE DAMNED". Well, this is probably THAT song where I can stop for a second and recommend you to pay attention to every instrument here, but especially please focus to the guitar over here. The guitar sound is pretty mighty, intense and strong … I love the way it's fulfilling the drum sound here, and how the guitar sound creates a perfect, clear and powerful weapon for the damned. I adore the ending of this song…

Song No.4 called "CLOUDS OF HUMAN EROSION" really justifies its title! I can say that this one is my favourite….yet it still consists the same tempo, order (or chaos) as the others, but there is something about her…The beginning of this song has serious influence over me and the head banging here is more extreme than earlier :)

I totally fell in love with the guitar here, every guitar has a soul, (every instrument has it!) but this one here has a sad one. It's like she speaks about her life, sadly but yet in some moments sounds so strong like she is hopeful! I am really not so sure how to explain it, or does anyone of you understand my opinion, but the guitar sound really overwhelmed me here, and it's hard to focus on the other instruments! I can really feel some DEATH influence on this song, maybe that's why it's my favourite! :)

I would love to hear the acoustic version of this song!

The 5th and the last song here is "A DARK GATHERING ...SADISTIC WARCRAFT" This song is maybe the strangest you can expect from these guyz! It has a pretty slow and mid-tempo start and clean vokills, but i especially like that feeling i have while listening it… like the chaos was born here, in this song! The vocals totally mismatch with the instruments, but i don't mean that in a bad way. The guitar sound (in the beginning) is totally opposite from the one we got used to it, but that's why after the 4th minute, DEMONIC HALACAUST ARE BACK!!! :) This song is really in their spirit, and really blows you away. I hope they are playing this song on their shows! :) Pretty amazing, these guyz have great qualities, some sick minds, and a great potential, I really hope to hear more from them in future and I hope that they will succeed…and that's all possible if they get your support!

kampfar--heimgang cd {napalm records}
kampfar and napalm team up once again and release a true gem of pagan black metal.for those unfamilar with these norweigan legends kampfar play older style norweigan black metal mixed with some epic and folkish style elements within their sound.the vocalist dolk gives a perfect vocal performance with his cold shrieks but also sings in a way you can understand his words.kampfar prove my point nicely and that is you can play dark mid-paced black metal with some added atmosphere parts without the use of female vocals or alot of over-used keys or synths.

october falls- the womb of primordial nature cd {moribund rec.}
october falls are in my opinon one of the most original sounding dark metal bands to be released this year. coming from the mighty finnish metal/folk scene.october falls blends a variety of dark styles together to create a epic masterpiece that should not be missed! starting off with a melodic acoustic intro the music quickly picks up to a more harsher black sound finally the band members settle into a melodic black/death sound with a big influence from the finnish folk scene. if your looking for something eerie dark and memorable then look no further october falls are the band you have been looking for.

This Serbian Evil Crew is really finding the right way to the chaotic dark throne! When you check them out at the myspace, you will see that in the section: Sounds Like: they wrote Like Hell! And they really managed to represent their sound the right way! :) Svartgren is an intolerant black metal project from Belgrade, Serbia, Under name of Svartgren, by death and fire united, band works since 2005. Its really impossible for me to add Serbian Black Metal bands and review them, and to ignore and not to add Svartgren as well! They are so fucking inspiring, so fucking fresh and young blooded (in the way they create their curses) I really hope to hear more from these Brotherz and one sister :) Its a neverending story they tell, and believe me there are some strange places this band can take you, if you just let them! I was positivelly suprised when i read their lyrics, they are perfect really! I mean (although i listen brutal death metal) its so refreshing for me to be a victim of such deep, rich, full of hatred lyrics!!! Too bad for the ones who dont know Serbian! Learn It Because of them!!! :) Check out and lay back for some new obssesion in your life at: http://www.myspace.com/svartgren Dont forget to express your support & respect for them!

vesterian-violent hateful black metal cdr {self-released}
i must say this u.s cult has found the perfect title of their release.because you won't find it much raw/harsh or hate-filled black metal.the band plays the cold/harsh black metal style but they are far from clones.they add some interesting guitar and drumming patterns into the chaos.for fans of the more raw/hate-filled cold black metal.

These incredible guyz are coming from Italy. They are pure Evil, Pure Hell! When I listen These guyz i just have a feeling like i am on a mountain or i am lost somewhere in a sicilian wood! They are great! The way they combine fastness with the mid-tempo its just a killer! So, many things come on your mind when you listen this band! I really like the way darkness and depression (creative one) dominates in their story! I love it! Besides that, just imagine a true black metal band, pagan black inspired by the homeland traditions, sicilian folklore, popular legends, darkness, and uncompromising hate! No more -go and check out these Pagan Brotherz!

Interview With Mike /DIMENTIANON

MIKE VOKILLS FOR DIMENTIANON; Done By Patrick

1.metal hails brother!! hows has your week been?please tell the readers a little about yourself.
Hail brother.

Well my name is Mike but some call me M which both are ok by me. This week has been like all the rest, fucking crazy! Love it or hate it this is my life. I am a 33 year old die hard metal hand who worships every word that comes out of Homer Simpsons mouth heh heh!!!

2.at what age did you discover metal? who were some of the first metal bands you listened to?

I discovered rock metal/metal at a very young age thanx to my older cousin playing some albums for me when she would watch my sister and i.
The first rock band i heard that got my attention was DEF LEPPARD. Till this day i still think there first 3 albums are awesome!!!! Then as i got a little older i really got into SKID ROW and again i still think there first 2 albums are great!!! But after this i really was searching for something heavier, though i was already hearing bands at this time and earlier on like BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, MEGADETH, BATHORY, SLAYER, CELTIC FROST, HIRAX, SODOM, DEATHWISH, POSSESSED, D.R.I., S.O.D., BLOOD FEAST, M.O.D., TESTAMENT, W.A.SP., ANTHRAX ETC... and i have to say though i like a few of these bands or some songs by them, I still was looking for something more. THEN I HEARD KING DIAMOND AND MY LIFE CHANGED FOREVER!!! HE STILL IS THE BEST AND STILL IS THE KING TO THESE EARS!!!

And that should do do it. Sorry brother i have not spun any vinyl for a while. Just crank cds why i am doing lable work and listen to tapes in my car. No time for vinyl which sucks as i have some killer stuff i want to listen to. Hopefully i will soon. And my favorite genre is black metal and death metal. But on the other hand i think just the term Underground comes to mind when i think of my favorite genre.

4.before the name change dimentianon was known as 'the forgotten'. why did you guys decide to change the bands name? how did you guys come up with the name dimentianon? does it have a special meaning?

There a few reasons for the change. One of them was there were to many bands with this name or similar to our name and the second was we wanted a stronger name. Our old drummer Marc starting looking up translations of The Forgotten in different languages and Italian it was Dimenticatto or something like that and we liked the first part but not the last part and Joe our old guitar player said take the end out and add 'ANON' to it. And it worked perfectly for us. So basically the meaning of the band is The Forgotten, just in a different language and of course we fucked with it a little bit which is the way we do things anyway. If it has a special meaning it is that it stays true to what the band is about and that we are nothing but a void with in ourselves possibly.

5.how long after the demise of 'the forgotten' did you guys form dimentianon? what merch does the band have availble for the fans?

Let me just state there was no demise, though it says it in our bio which i personally can't stand. It was just a name change that is all. The band never stopped! As the forgotten we had 1 t-shirt design that was pretty professional and it was basically for the promo tape release of the song 'the grave' which of course the shirt was very limited and the promo tapes of "the grave" release were all made by us and they were more limited then the shirts. We also had a couple of demos . The very special 'Casket Full Of Noise' release which were made by our old drummer Marc and were extremely limited. Our first cd 'L'aldila' and the last release was our split 7" with Rigor Sardonicous where we stated on the 7" about the name change to Dimentianon. As for the merchandise of Dimentianon we have 3 shirts, 2 of which still are available through us. We also released 3 demo cdrs and our 2nd cd 'Seven Suicides', 3rd cd 'Hossanas Novus Ordo Seclurum', split cd with Rigor Sardonicous, and finally our latest release is our live promo that came out this year but was recorded in Dec.2007, which also was the last show with the old line-up.

6.i know the band has played alot of shows around the new york area. who are some bands you guys have gotten to share the stage with? if you could set-up a dream show/tour who are some bands you would love to play with?

We have played with some killer bands over the years such as Cannibal Corpse, Grand Belial's Key, Twisted Tower Dire, Deicide, Pungent Stench, Incantation, Macabre, Enslaved, Malignancy, Copremesis, Biolich [RIP], Dead Veronica [RIP], Grotesqueuphoria, Macabre, Evergrey, Kreator, Decapitated, Man Is The Monster, Fallen Christ [RIP], Akercocke, Watchmaker, Vehemence, Mortician, Sabbat [JAPAN], Profanatica, Abazagorath, Inquisition, Mortem [PERU], Sadistic Intent, Deceased etc... . i think for us to open up on a 4 way bill that that would include Marduk, Cannibal Corpse, and King Diamond would be pretty sick for me brother!!!! Also if i had the chance to play with Evol [RIP] that would have been amazing for me as well!!!

7. between the bands you have been singing for a quite a few years now. do you do anything special to keep your throat healthy and strong? who are some of your favorite vocalists? do you play any instruements beside singing?

Joe from Rigor Sardonicous gave me some vocal lessons when he was in Dimentianon since he had some vocal training himself in a college course he was taking i believe. He showed me how i can warm up my voice and also how i can make it stronger. I still use alot of the techniques he showed me till this day. One of the tracks is to try not to bring it all out from your throat which is easier said then done alot of times because the energy that the music generates can really get you going and you will forget to sing from your chest. But in all truth i don't really have any problems. My voice can get hoarse like anybody elses who does this singing but that is really it. I will say there is high pitch of my voice i use to be able to hit with just me talkingor doing a joking around voice, and now i can't because of the damage that has been done from doing these vocals. Which i lost that chord along time ago actually heh heh!!! But i can live with that. I do not play an instrument. Some of my favorite vocalists are Legion, George Corpse Grinder, Frank Mullen, Warrel Dane, Matt Barlow, Azathoth [ex -Dark Fortress vocalist] Maurice [Occult now known as Legion Of The Dammed], Jan Chris [Gorefest], Jorgen Sanstrom [ex-Grave], Klas Morberg [ the first 2 Desultory albums], Brett Hoffman [Malevolent Creation], just to name a few. And of course King Diamond is my favorite of all time!!!!!!!

8.in your opinion what is the best and worst thing about the underground? and what does the term 'metal underground' mean to you?

Well the best thing is the music. There are just so many good bands out there that can really just give you some strong visions and feelings man!!! That is so amazing to me. The brotherhood that is in the scene with alot of people is truly inspiring to mealso. The underground means a way of life. And to sum it up simply what it means to me... LIVE IT, BREATHE IT, BLEED IT!!!!

I have to admit i do feel there are to many bands and labels out there. But at the same time there are alot of great ones. And all should decide this for themselves.

However there are also some labels that i personally feel have more of a name then others that get more attention because of this, and they have some of the most bland artists that really have nothing to offer metal or the scene. I personally feel it really hurts the whole movement of the underground.

But some of the worst things in the underground are any band talking down about other bands, the scene etc... There is no reason for it and it really brings the level and strength down of the scene and the music itself. Some interviews with bands that i read sometimes are like reading bad movie scripts. i shake my head. It's the attitude where you want to be the biggest and badest on the block type of shit which personally i don't understand the need to bad mouth oher artists to feel like a strong person or a strong band. By all means i want to be the best i can be at what i do and i want Dimentianon and Sectioned to hold it's own with anybody, but that is done by action not talk!! And i am a huge fan of the music so i have no interest in talking down about other artists. And why the hell do you want to not get along with people/bands who basically are in this for the same reason you are? Not to mention they are to above everybody to admit there a fan of the music themselves. All of this shit comes down to the stupidity that man can succumb to, plain and simple, not to mention the insecurity and lies that go along with this. But for these artists that say they reach a level of creativity most bands can't, have no alliance to other bands, and they hate most bands, the scene blah blah... THE RESPONSE FROM ME IS SIMPLE. ONLY A FOOL IS A PART OF SOMETHING HE HATES!!! For the ones that know the true spirit of this music they will be here why the talkers fade away. that is certain!

9.besides the band i know you and some friends started/own the record label/distro paragon records. when did you guys decide to start/form the label? how did you guys come up with the name paragon records?

Basically Jim wanted to start the label just to get out the first Forgotten cd. We could not find a good deal for the band and Jim said fuck it we will start a label and we will release it ourselves. And Jim decided this sometime in the middle of 2000. Jim came up with the label name so you would have to ask him brother.

10.how many people work with you on the label? do you have any advice to anyone reading this that may be thinking of starting a label?

There are 4 of us. The advice i would give is email and write as many people as possible and be very selective with your signings as well as sign bands that are very different to each other both musically, visually etc... . I personally feel this is a good way to go but of course some bands can be similar to each other as i know we have this on our own label. i also would say don't have 5 releases come out at once as it will be hard for your artists to get the attention they deserve and it could get them lost among the sea of bands that are out there. Lastly and this is very important do for your artist what you say your going to. Do not promoise them something that you can't deliever. If there is a problem why something can't be done be honest. DO NOT AND I RE-PEAT DO NOT GO BEHIND THERE BACK TO SAVE A BUCK AND SCREW THEM OVER. Of course there will be things that are going on with the label that are not the artists business or even a big deal for them to know about, but if it's something very important, it is the lables responsibility to take care of there artist and also to back them up. Plain and simple. NO EXCUSES!!! And i am sure we have made our mistakes here at Paragon but we take this very seriously.

11.i know the label has some recent releases that i have gotten {check out review section for some-patrick} can you tell the readers a little about them. what do you guys look for when signing/releasing a band? Some of the more recent releases are

Copremesis - Muay Thai Ladyboys cd - sick brutal technical death grind which is a little to sick for most people as it also has one of the most controversional layouts in years!!!
Rigor Sardonicous - Vallis Ex Umbra De Mortuus lp/tape/cd - which is some of the mose dense doom you will ever hear. As the band says themselves raw apocalypic doom!!!
Darkestrah - The Greast Silk Road digi cd - very epic pagan black metal that pays tribute to the bands shaman roots. and the band uses traditional instruments used by the shaman.
Vorkua/Kratornas --Monoliths of Annihilation split 7' - both bands simply play brutal raw black metal on this release!!!
